Plot twist

Part 3: The Audit of the Mitchell Estate

By 9:00 AM on Monday morning, the executive boardroom of Mitchell Corporate Development was dead silent.

Daniel sat at the center of the polished obsidian table, his dark suit rumpled, his hair unstyled for the first time in his professional life.

Beside him sat his mother, clutching a wet tissue, her grand plans of clearing out my closets with garbage bags completely ruined.

"The medical records have been fully authenticated by the court-appointed referee," my attorney, Marcus Vance, announced, placing a thick blue folder onto the table.

"The allegation of marital infidelity is formally withdrawn from the record, carrying a prejudice ruling against the plaintiff."

"We understand the biological metrics, Mr. Vance," Daniel’s defense attorney sighed, rubbing his temples in exhaustion.

"My client is willing to offer an equal division of the primary real estate assets to settle the custody dispute privately."

"We aren't settling for an equal division, Counsel," I said, stepping into the room wearing a sharp tailored navy business suit.

I sat down at the head of the table, my presence completely dominating the room as I opened a secondary digital ledger.

"While Daniel was spending his weekends at expensive restaurants with Vanessa, my forensic compliance team was looking into the corporate transition accounts."

Daniel looked up, a sudden, sharp flash of terror widening his eyes as the screen on the wall lit up with transaction routing numbers.

"Four months ago, right around the time I became pregnant, Daniel transferred $1.2 million from our joint marital trust into a shell company registered in Vanessa’s maiden name," I revealed, my voice flat and clinical.

"He didn't get a vasectomy because he was uncertain about children, Mother," I added, looking directly at my mother-in-law.

"He got it because he had already planned to execute a structural asset-hiding scheme, using an expected negative paternity test to strip me of my legal share of the Mitchell estate."

The boardroom went completely cold as the corporate partners looked at Daniel with absolute disgust.

"This is grand larceny and structured wire fraud, Daniel," Marcus added, sliding the federal compliance notice across the wood.

"You didn't just abandon your family. You used a medical procedure to facilitate a multi-million-dollar corporate embezzlement scheme."
