Part 4: Absolute Restitution

Daniel’s mother dropped her tissue, her face turning an ash-gray color as she looked at her son, realizing their family legacy was turning to ash.
"Daniel... tell me this isn't true," she wept, her voice cracking. "The family name... the company assets..."
Daniel couldn't speak; his hands were glued to the mahogany table as the reality of his total liquidation settled over his shoulders.
"The board has already voted, Daniel," I said, standing up and smoothing down the front of my jacket.
"Effective at the opening bell this morning, your executive credentials at Mitchell Development have been permanently revoked for gross moral turpitude and corporate asset conversion."
"The court has awarded me absolute, exclusive occupancy of the Riverside estate, along with a temporary restraining order restricting your access to the corporate funds."
Two state compliance officers stepped into the boardroom from the rear entrance, their dark uniforms and heavy statures blocking out the sunlight from the panoramic windows.
"Mr. Mitchell, you need to step away from the table," the lead officer commanded firmly, pulling a set of steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.
"You are being detained under a federal warrant for structured bank fraud and grand theft."
Daniel stood up slowly, his knees trembling as the officers forced his arms behind his back, the metallic click of the locks echoing through the silent room.
He looked at me one last time, his eyes wide with a desperate, pathetic plea for mercy, but my face remained an unbreakable sheet of stone.
"You told me the truth would set you free from a lie, Daniel," I whispered as they guided him toward the service elevator.
"And the truth is, you're going to spend the next ten years figuring out your marital expenses from a federal cell."
I walked out of the building into the bright, warm afternoon air, holding the finalized estate preservation documents tightly against my chest.
My phone buzzed with a message from Dr. Anderson, confirming the secondary health metrics for my beautiful, growing twins were absolutely perfect.
