The steel handcuffs clicked shut around Margaret’s wrists with a sharp, heavy sound that resonated off the glass.

Julian was led out right behind her, his executive confidence completely liquidated as the cameras filmed from the pavement.

Their commercial names were permanently expunged from the regional indices, their properties seized by the state before noon.

I turned my back on the collapsing legacy and walked out of the skyscraper into the fresh, clear morning air.

People like the Hales always believe that because they carry a trust fund and a loud opinion, they command the truth.

They look at a pregnant woman covered in buttercream and mistake her patience for an absolute, permanent weakness.

They completely forget that the same person who manages the data is the one who knows how to execute the foreclosure.

I drove back to Maya’s apartment, looking out at the city skyline, feeling my baby rest quietly beneath my hand.

The old routine was torn to shreds, the liars were contained in a maximum-security audit, and our world was safe.
