Chapter 5 - THE GALA OF RETRIBUTION

The grand Temple of Dendur inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art was a breathtaking, suffocating monument to old-money luxury.
Under the towering glass canopy, three hundred of New York’s most prominent real estate tycoons, politicians, and high-society heirs raised their crystal glasses of champagne.
The soft, classical music of a live violin quartette drifted through the air, mixing with the expensive scent of roasted truffles and Victoria’s favorite lavender perfume.
Victoria Mercer stood at the head of the main reception platform, her emerald-green silk evening gown glittering brilliantly under the soft amber lights.
Beside her stood Richard, his custom-tailored dark blue tuxedo immaculate, his face relaxed into a smug, victorious smile as he toasted his board members.
"Ladies and gentlemen, corporate partners," Victoria announced, her smooth, theatrical voice echoing through the massive, vaulted stone room.
"Tonight, as we celebrate the annual Mercer Foundation gala, we also celebrate the absolute consolidation of our shipping networks."
"With the finalization of our recent corporate restructuring, we are prepared to sign the global integration deeds with our partners from the Swiss Logistics Group."
She raised a gold-plated fountain pen, preparing to slide the nib across the signature line of the multi-million-dollar agreement displayed on the mahogany podium.
"The signature on those deeds constitutes federal wire fraud, Victoria," a cold, clear voice cut through the grand ballroom like a razor-sharp wire.
The heavy bronze doors of the temple wing were violently thrown open, the sound vibrating against the stone walls as eight armed federal marshals stepped onto the floor.
I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.
I wore an immaculate, sharp white tailored power suit, my blonde hair pulled back into a flawless chignon, my green eyes carrying a lethal, crystalline focus.
Beside me walked Captain Marcus Bennett, his uniform immaculate, his gold shield gleaming under the brilliant chandeliers.
"Sophia?" Richard gasped, the gold pen slipping from his shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the stone platform.
His face turned an instant, pasty shade of gray, his knees buckling slightly as the reality of our return struck his mind.
"What... what is the meaning of this?" Victoria shrieked, her high-society composure entirely disappearing into a mask of raw, animalistic panic.
"Security! Remove this trespassing, mentally unstable woman from my gala immediately!"
May you like
"The security team doesn't work for you anymore, Victoria," Marcus Bennett announced, his voice carrying the absolute, military authority of a federal raid.
"And your private empire of lies is officially over."
