Part 2: The Silent Transaction

The digital notification Julian was staring at wasn't a standard message.
It was an automated asset-seizure alert from the state treasury's compliance office.
For three years, Julian and his mother had operated under the assumption that the penthouse, the offshore accounts, and the corporate entities of Cross Logistics were completely hidden under Evelyn’s maiden name.
They believed that by keeping my name off the physical paper, they could treat me like an unwanted tenant in my own life.
What they didn't know was that the baseline funding for their entire empire came from the original trust fund my father had left me when I turned twenty-five.
I had spent the last nine months working quietly with a private forensic investigator, tracking every single dollar they had routed through the Delaware shell companies.
The moment Julian had raised his hand to my face an hour ago, I didn't scream.
I didn't cry.
I simply activated the biometric emergency override on my private banking application.
"The state inspectors didn't just flag your accounts, Julian," I said, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper as I wiped the blood from my lip. "They've already frozen the utility easements for the northern shipping routes."
Evelyn took a panicked step forward, her teal blazer wrinkling as her hands began to shake. "You can't touch those routes! Those are family assets!"
"They were my grandfather’s assets," I said flatly. "And you used a forged power of attorney to transfer them the week before he died in that nursing home."
Julian looked at his mother, his face turning an ugly shade of gray under the chandelier light. "Mom... you told me the digital trail was completely wiped."

"It was!" Evelyn shrieked, her eyes locked on the blinking screen of her phone. "The lawyers said it was impossible to trace!"
"Nothing is impossible to trace when you use a corporate card to buy a diamond necklace for your mistress on the exact night I was in the hospital with Chloe," I said, pointing toward the door.
