Chapter 1 - The Descent

The party music was deafening.
Champagne flowed.
Laughter echoed against the mansion walls.
Julian stood by the pool.
He held a crystal glass.
His suit was tailored.
Expensive.
He was the golden boy of the elite.
And he loved control.
Then he saw her.
Elena.
She was standing too close to the edge.
He didn’t hesitate.
He didn’t think.
He just pushed.
The splash was loud.
The water swallowed her.
She resurfaced, gasping.
Her mascara ran in black streaks.
Like tears of ink.
The crowd erupted.
Not in shock.
In laughter.
They raised their phones.
Recording.
Broadcasting her humiliation to the world.
She wiped her eyes.
Her voice trembled.
“Why are you doing this?”
Julian smirked.
He took a sip of his drink.
“Because,” he said, looking down at her, “you’re nobody.”
The crowd cheered.
He felt powerful.
Invincible.
Then, the music stopped.
The air shifted.
A low, guttural roar echoed from the driveway.
A black sports car.
It skidded to a halt.
Gravel sprayed.
The engine cut out.
Silence fell over the patio.
A man emerged.
Tall.
Imposing.
He wore a dark coat.
He held a gold-topped cane.
His eyes scanned the crowd.
They were cold.
Deadly.
The guests retreated.
Phones lowered.
Julian’s smirk faltered.
The man walked toward the pool.
Every step was heavy.
Deliberate.
He reached the edge.
He didn't look at Julian.
He looked at Elena.
Then, he turned.
His gaze locked onto Julian.
His voice was a razor.
“Who touched my daughter?”
Julian’s blood went cold.
He opened his mouth.
No sound came out.
The man didn't blink.
He raised his cane.
He pointed it at Julian’s chest.
“Do you have any idea,” he whispered, “what you’ve just invited into your life?”
Julian felt the ground vanish beneath him.
May you like
He wasn't the predator anymore.
He was the prey.
