Chapter 5 - The Glass House

Julian sat in the dirt.

The driveway was cold.

The mansion glowed.

A tomb of his ego.

He stood up.

His suit was ruined.

Expensive fabric.

Torn.

He walked toward the gate.

His legs felt like lead.

Every step was a struggle.

His phone was gone.

His cards were dead.

He reached the main road.

The city lights blurred.

He needed a ride.

He waved at a taxi.

It didn’t stop.

He was a ghost.

A man without a name.

He reached his father’s estate.

The gates were closed.

Locked.

He pressed the buzzer.

Silence.

He pressed again.

Nothing.

Then, the camera light turned red.

A voice crackled.

Cold.

Hard.

“Go away, Julian.”

It was his father.

“Father, wait!”

“I have no son.”

The line went dead.

The gate remained locked.

Julian leaned against the cold iron.

His world was shrinking.

He had lived in a glass house.

He thought it was bulletproof.

He was wrong.

It was just fragile.

He walked into the dark.

The streets were empty.

The wind howled.

He realized something then.

The money was gone.

But the debt remained.

He had enemies.

Men he had cheated.

Men he had mocked.

They were waiting.

The hunt had started.

He wasn't the hunter anymore.

He was the bait.

He looked at his hands.

They were clean.

But his soul felt stained.

He needed a plan.

He needed an edge.

But he had nothing.

Just his name.

And that was his curse.

He walked faster.

Shadows followed him.

He could feel them.

Watching.

Waiting.

He turned a corner.

A black car idled.

The windows were tinted.

It followed him.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

He started to run.

His heart pounded.

Panic set in.

He turned into an alley.

A dead end.

He stopped.

He turned around.

The car sat at the entrance.

The driver’s door opened.

A man stepped out.

Large.

Menacing.

He held a lead pipe.

Julian backed away.

He hit the brick wall.

Cold.

Hard.

“Please,” Julian whispered.

“I have nothing left.”

The man smiled.

“We aren't here for money.”

He raised the pipe.

Julian squeezed his eyes shut.

The blow never came.

A gunshot echoed.

The man collapsed.

Julian opened his eyes.

A woman stood there.

Holding a pistol.

She was masked.

“Who are you?”

She didn't answer.

She just walked over.

She handed him a bag.

“Inside is a passport.”

“And enough cash for a flight.”

Julian stared at her.

“Why?”

She leaned in close.

Her voice was a whisper.

“Because the game,” she said, “needs more players.”

She vanished into the night.

Julian stood alone.

The bag was heavy.

His future was dark.

But it was a start.

He looked at the passport.

A new name.

A new life.

But the same old fear.

May you like

The game was changing.

And he was just a pawn.
