Chapter 9 - The Digital Ghost

Midnight.
The server room was cold.
The humming of fans.
The blue glow of lights.
Sarah stood at the terminal.
Her hands were shaking.
Julian stood behind her.
"Do it now."
She entered the code.
The screen flickered.
Access granted.
Julian stepped forward.
He moved fast.
He bypassed the firewalls.
He reached the secure vault.
The ledger was real.
It was all there.
Every dirty secret.
Every offshore account.
He copied the data.
"Hurry," Sarah whispered.
"I'm almost done."
He hit the final key.
The download finished.
"We have to go."
"Wait."
He saw a file.
Project Legacy.
He opened it.
His breath caught.
It was a blueprint.
A new development.
Illegal.
Lethal.
They were building on toxic land.
Covering it up.
"What is this?"
"I don't know."
"We need this, too."
He copied the file.
The system groaned.
An alarm blared.
Red lights flashed.
"They found us!"
"Run!"
They sprinted for the exit.
The guards were coming.
Heavy boots on tile.
They burst into the hall.
Julian pulled her.
They dove into the stairwell.
Down.
Down.
They hit the garage.
The car was waiting.
He floored it.
They sped away.
The siren faded.
They were safe.
For now.
Julian looked at the drive.
He had the weapon.
The empire was crumbling.
He could feel it.
May you like
He was the ghost.
And he was coming.
