Chapter 4 - The Aftermath

The silence in the room was absolute.

Arthur took the paper.

He inspected the signature.

Satisfied.

“Get out,” he said.

Julian didn’t move.

He couldn't.

His life was gone.

His future.

His name.

The guards grabbed him.

They dragged him out of the mansion.

They threw him onto the gravel driveway.

The night air was cold.

He sat in the dirt.

He looked back at the house.

The lights were still on.

But it wasn't his house anymore.

He had nothing.

Inside, Elena walked to the window.

She watched him go.

She felt no pity.

“Is it done?” she asked.

Arthur looked at the document.

“It is.”

He tore the paper in half.

Then into quarters.

He let the pieces fall.

“The money didn’t matter,” he said.

“I just wanted to see him broken.”

Elena nodded.

She looked at her hands.

They weren't shaking anymore.

She had learned her lesson.

Never trust anyone.

Never show weakness.

And always, always have a backup.

“What about the father?” she asked.

Arthur picked up his cane.

“He’s next.”

He walked to the door.

He paused.

“The car is waiting.”

They stepped out into the night.

The black sports car was still there.

It looked like a panther.

Waiting to strike.

Julian was gone.

The guests were gone.

Only the truth remained.

And the truth was a dangerous thing.

Elena stepped into the car.

The engine roared to life.

They drove away.

The mansion faded into the darkness.

It was a party that would be remembered.

Not for the music.

Not for the drinks.

But for the moment the predator realized.

He was never the one in charge.

The night was quiet.

The city slept.

May you like

But the game was far from over.

It was just beginning.
