Chapter 5 - The Unraveling of Daniel’s Fortune

The executive suite became a battlefield of high corporate drama within seconds. Daniel’s wife began screaming at the top of her lungs, demanding her lawyers be called, while my mother sank back into her leather chair, her face turning an ashen, sickly grey as she stared at Detective Vance.

"You can't do this!" Daniel shouted, his voice cracking as two uniform officers stepped up behind his chair. "I built the logistics network for the western sector! The company will collapse without my signature on the morning trade clearances!"

"Your signature hasn't been valid for forty-eight hours, Daniel," I said, pulling the true corporate controlling certificates from my leather briefcase and placing them flat on the desk. "Father revoked your corporate clearance the moment he realized you were routing the shipping line revenues through Arthur’s private accounts in the Caymans."

At the mention of Arthur’s name, the door to the adjoining boardroom opened, and Rachel walked out, her eyes red and swollen from a morning of desperate phone calls. She looked at me, then at the documents, her usual superior expression completely shattered.

"David... please," Rachel whispered, stepping toward me with her hands clasped together. "Arthur didn't know what Daniel was doing. He was just trying to protect our children's future. If the bank forecloses on the Tahoe and the suburban house, we'll lose everything."

"You should have thought about your children's future when your father was begging to see them in room 304, Rachel," I said, my voice cold and unyielding as stone. "You couldn't spend fifteen minutes to visit him, but you had plenty of time to sign the transfer deeds for his personal vehicles while he was unconscious."

My mother slowly raised her head, her voice trembling with a mix of desperate rage and old manipulation tactics. "David... I am your mother. You wouldn't do this to your own blood. What will the neighbors say? What will the church community think if you put your own brother in handcuffs?"

"The same neighbors who watched me carry a broken wardrobe out of your house while you laughed from the porch, Mother?" I asked, looking her directly in the eye. "Family doesn't keep score, remember? That was your favorite rule. But it turns out the state accountants keep excellent records."

The legal team from the district attorney’s office began systematically boxing up the hard drives and financial ledgers from the executive cabinets. Daniel stood there, his expensive silk tie askew, watching his entire life’s ambition vanish into cardboard boxes.

"This isn't over, David!" Daniel hissed as the officers guided him toward the private executive elevator. "You don't know how to run this company! You're just the youngest son who spent his life hiding in the background!"

"I spent my life learning how to build things from the ground up, brother," I said quietly as the elevator doors began to close. "While you were busy learning how to steal them."
