Chapter 5 - THE CORPORATE TRAPDOOR

The grand executive boardroom of the Hale Logistics Group was a breathtaking, suffocating monument to old-money power and corporate corruption.
Thirty of the city’s most prominent investment bankers, board directors, and high-society attorneys sat in high-backed velvet chairs, preparing to finalize the integration.
At the head of the table sat Grant's father, his navy suit tailored perfectly, his face carrying a smug, victorious grin as he prepared to sign the global deeds.
"With the unfortunate, ongoing medical absence of our primary trustee, Claire Hale, we are prepared to assume full execution authority over the maritime patents," he announced.
"The signature on those documents constitutes federal wire fraud, Arthur," a cold, clear voice cut through the room.
The heavy mahogany double doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, and I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid and completely unbreakable.
Beside me walked Dr. Adrian Shaw, his white lab coat replaced by a sharp, tailored black suit, his fingers holding the secure digital drive containing the recording.
Behind us walked a team of six armed federal marshals, their gold shields gleaming under the modern chandeliers as they surrounded the platform.
"Claire?" Arthur gasped, the gold fountain pen slipping from his fingers and clattering loudly against the polished mahogany table.
His face turned an instant, pasty shade of gray under the bright lights, his knees buckling as the reality of our return struck his mind.

"What... what is this? This is a private corporate meeting!"
"The meeting is officially closed, Arthur," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the silent, vaulted room.
