Chapter 3 - THE FREEZE OF ASSETS

The transition from a publicly humiliated wife to the sovereign executor of a twelve-million-dollar empire was instantaneous and absolute.
I did not wipe the red gravy from my ivory dress, nor did I look for a napkin to clean the dirt from my daughter’s stained pink clothing.
I stood completely rigid on the cold hardwood floor, the gold fairy lights of the Christmas tree casting long, sharp shadows across the faces of my enemies.
"The federal grand jury unsealed the indictment at precisely four thirty this afternoon, Richard," Arthur said, stepping onto the marble perimeter of the room.
"Your shipping fleet in Panama has just been placed under an emergency international maritime quarantine for systematic wire fraud and asset hiding."
"Every single line of domestic credit registered to Sinclair Logistics was frozen by the treasury department the moment the clock struck five."
Beatrice sank slowly back into her velvet-cushioned chair, her immaculate silver hair looking suddenly fragile, her face turning the pasty color of wet ash.
"This is an absolute outrage!" she hissed, her voice trembling with a primitive, desperate rage.
"My family built the foundational infrastructure of this entire shipping district; you cannot freeze our accounts based on the word of a hysterical woman!"
"The hysterical woman has the complete cryptographic keys to your secondary offshore vault, Beatrice," I said, looking down at her with dead, unyielding eyes.
"You thought you could use a fraudulent medical guardianship to seize my children and my father's real estate trust to cover your debts."
"But by staging this assault tonight, you have officially executed the automatic default clause in your own corporate bylaws."
