Chapter 5 - THE SILENT WAR

The rain off the Long Island Sound hit the dark glass windows of the luxury estate with a steady, hostile drumbeat.

At exactly 4:30 AM, the security gates of Victor Caldwell’s mansion were silently bypassed by Ethan’s private tactical team.

Marcus Reed sat in the study, a half-empty glass of scotch in his hand, his fingers frantically entering deletion codes into his laptop.

Beside him, Victor Caldwell was pacing the floor, his expensive cashmere coat wrinkled, his face pale with a desperate, growing panic.

"We have to go, Marcus!" Victor hissed, grabbing his leather briefcase from the desk.

"The central bank has already executed a temporary freeze on our domestic holding registries."

"If the federal authorities link those wire transfers to our Panama accounts before we clear the airspace, we are done."

Before Marcus Reed could shut down the terminal, the heavy mahogany doors of the study were violently thrown open, splintering against the stone walls.

Ethan Caldwell walked through the threshold, his head held high, his posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.

He wore an immaculate, sharp black suit, his eyes carrying a lethal, crystalline focus that made Victor’s breath halt in his throat.

"The flight has been canceled, Victor," Ethan said, his voice echoing through the silent room like a death knell.

"And your private security detail has already been neutralized by the federal marshals waiting outside."

Marcus Reed lunged toward the desk drawer, his hand reaching for a concealed weapon.

But before his fingers could touch the steel grip, the K-9 tactical unit burst through the shattered windows, pinning him to the floorboards.

The heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around his wrists ended his decades of high-society terror.

The golden prince of the Caldwell syndicate was reduced to a pale, shivering felon, his family's empire of lies permanently dismantled.
