Chapter 6 - THE UNMASKING OF THE SYNDICATE

The grand executive boardroom on the ninetieth floor of the Caldwell Tower was a breathtaking monument to corporate power and old-money greed.
At exactly 10:00 AM on Friday morning, thirty of the city’s most prominent investment bankers and board directors sat in high-backed chairs.
At the head of the table sat Victor Caldwell, his polished, practiced smile of professional discipline looking entirely artificial as he prepared to sign the merger.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Victor announced, his voice booming through the room.
"Due to the tragic, sudden medical incapacitation of my nephew, Ethan, our committee has assumed full guardianship over the shipping patents."
He raised a gold-plated fountain pen, preparing to slide the nib across the final signature line of the multi-million-dollar agreement.
"The signature on those deeds constitutes federal wire fraud, Uncle Victor," a cold, clear voice cut through the boardroom like a razor-sharp wire.
The doors were thrown open, and I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my hand resting proudly on Ethan’s arm.
Beside us walked Captain Marcus Bennett and a team of six armed federal marshals, their gold shields gleaming under the LED lights.
"Ethan?" Victor gasped, the gold pen slipping from his shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the mahogany table.
His face turned an instant, pasty shade of gray, his knees buckling as the reality of our return struck his mind.
Marcus Bennett stepped onto the platform, plugging the secure digital drive from our safe house into the table's main media console.
The massive, sixty-foot projector screens behind the podium instantly illuminated, displaying the original banking transactions and the toxicological reports of the blast.
The board directors watched in breathless, paralyzed horror as the evidence of their multi-million-dollar conspiracy and domestic abuse was laid bare.
"My God," the board chairman whispered, standing up from his chair in deep, professional disgust.
"This is monstrous."

The lead marshal stepped forward, the heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around Victor’s wrists ending his decades of financial corruption.
The man who had tried to sacrifice our lives to protect his corporate debts was led away in chains, his life of luxury traded for a concrete cell.
