Plot twist

Part 3: The Queen's Departure

Panic consumed the dining room completely.

Diane was on her hands and knees, sobbing hysterically as she tried to scoop up the shattered pieces of her wineglass, completely losing her mind.

Jessica sprinted out the front doors, abandoning Brendan without a second thought, desperate to distance herself from the sinking ship.

Brendan sat in his chair, completely paralyzed.

The auditors moved efficiently around him, confiscating his corporate phone, his platinum company credit cards, and the keys to his company-issued Mercedes.

“Cassidy, you can't leave me with nothing,” Brendan pleaded, his voice cracking into a pathetic whimper.

He looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot and desperate.

“I’m the father of your child. You’re going to ruin me.”

I walked over to him, standing incredibly close.

I looked down at the man who had abandoned me when I got pregnant, claiming I was holding him back from his true potential.

“You ruined yourself, Brendan,” I said quietly.

“I gave you every opportunity to be a good man. I gave you promotions you didn't earn, just to see if you would step up and take responsibility.”

I shook my head, feeling a profound sense of closure wash over me.

“Instead, you stole from me. You mocked me. You let your mother treat me like garbage.”

“I’ll pay it back!” Brendan desperately promised, grabbing the edge of the towel wrapped around my shoulders. “I swear, Cass! I’ll work it off! Just don't press charges!”

I gently slapped his hand away.

“It’s too late for that,” I whispered.

Outside, the sound of blaring sirens shattered the quiet evening air.

The flashing red and blue lights of multiple police cruisers reflected against the large dining room windows, illuminating the terrified faces of my ex-family.

“I didn't just call Arthur to freeze your accounts,” I explained, stepping back as Marcus moved in to shield me.

“I also sent the complete dossier of your financial crimes to the District Attorney's office.”

Brendan let out a guttural, devastated scream.

He lunged toward me, completely unhinged, his hands reaching out to grab my throat.

He didn't make it even halfway.

Marcus and two other tactical security guards tackled Brendan to the hardwood floor, pinning his arms brutally behind his back.

“Get off me!” Brendan roared, thrashing wildly against the heavy boots of the security team. “She’s a liar! She set me up!”

The dining room doors swung open once more.

Four uniformed police officers stepped inside, their hands resting on their holstered weapons.

They took one look at the scene, identified Brendan on the floor, and moved in with handcuffs.

“Brendan Vance,” the lead officer announced, pulling the heavy steel cuffs from his belt. “You are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and corporate embezzlement.”

Diane screamed, running toward the officers and pulling at their uniforms.

“Don't take my son!” Diane wailed, her mascara running down her face in thick, black streaks. “He’s a good boy! She’s the monster! She’s ruining us!”

One of the officers gently but firmly pushed Diane back.

“Ma'am, you need to step back, or you will be arrested for interfering with an active investigation,” the officer warned.

Diane collapsed onto the wet floor, right in the puddle of icy water she had dumped on me.

She sat there, shivering, ruined, and completely alone.

The police dragged Brendan to his feet.

He didn't look arrogant anymore.

He looked small, pathetic, and entirely broken.

As they marched him past me, he refused to meet my eyes, staring at the floor in absolute shame.

“Goodbye, Brendan,” I said softly.

He didn't answer as they led him out the front door and pushed him into the back of a squad car.

The corporate auditors finished packing up their briefcases, having successfully secured the property.

“Madam Chairwoman,” Evelyn said, handing me a pristine, digital tablet for a final signature. “The assets are frozen. The property is secured.”

I signed the screen with a swift, confident stroke.

“Thank you, Evelyn,” I replied. “Lock the doors behind you.”

Marcus held his arm out, guiding me through the chaotic dining room and toward the grand entrance of the mansion.

I walked out into the cool, crisp night air.

The icy water in my hair had finally stopped dripping.

Parked at the end of the driveway, waiting patiently behind the flashing police cars, was a sleek, black Maybach.

My personal driver stood by the rear door, holding an umbrella to shield me from the evening mist.

I stepped into the luxurious, heated leather interior of the car.

The heavy door closed, shutting out the sirens, the screaming, and the toxic past I had finally destroyed.

I rested both hands over my stomach, feeling a strong, reassuring kick from my daughter.

“Are you alright, ma'am?” the driver asked gently, looking at me through the rearview mirror.

I leaned back against the plush seat, a genuine, beautiful smile spreading across my face.

“I’m perfectly fine,” I said, looking out the window as the mansion faded into the distance.

They had thought I was a poor, pregnant burden.

They had thought they could humiliate me and face absolutely no consequences.

But as the Maybach merged onto the highway, carrying me toward my real life, I knew the truth.

I wasn't a burden.
