PART 2: THE ISOLATION CELL

PART 2: THE ISOLATION CELL
The silence inside the high-rise condo was deafening, save for the rhythmic, dull clicking of the elevator doors shutting in the private hallway.
Lucas didn’t let go of the legal clipboard, his knuckles turning white against the plastic border as his eyes traveled from his mother’s pale face to his cousin's calculated stance.
"What is this, Richard?" Lucas asked, his voice dropping into a low, deadly baritone. "Explain the signature. Explain what you made me sign under the guise of the logistics merger."
Richard cleared his throat, his hand instinctively tightening around his leather portfolio as he took a measured step backward toward the corridor. "Lucas, be reasonable. The family corporation cannot afford an unstable liability heading into the first-quarter public offering. Your mother and I simply implemented a contingency protective trust for the heir."
"A protective trust?" Lucas barked softly, a cold rage expanding in his chest. He turned back to Emma, looking down at the stark, brutal marks mapping her skin. "Is this what your 'protection' looks like? Who did this to her?"
"She fell, Lucas!" Margaret interjected, her high-society elegance fracturing as she stepped into the room, her voice rising in a defensive pitch. "She’s been clumsy since the second trimester. I told you pregnancy does strange things to a woman's balance! She refused to see the network doctors because she was trying to hide her instability from you!"
"I didn't fall," Emma whispered from the bed, her chin trembling as she stared directly at Margaret. "They intercepted my medical transit van last Tuesday. Richard’s security detail forced me into the private wing basement. They told me if I didn't sign the voluntary surrogate surrender, they would make sure Lucas found a manufactured infidelity trail on my personal iCloud."
Lucas felt the last remnants of his family loyalty completely disintegrate. He had spent the last week buried in corporate boardrooms, blinded by the stress of a multi-million-dollar acquisition, completely unaware that his own inner circle was operating a psychological warfare campaign inside his own home.
"You used my signature from the proxy voter forms," Lucas said, his gaze locking onto Richard with lethal focus. "You forged the notary seal."

"It's a legal asset protection mechanism, Lucas," Richard said, his demeanor hardening into professional detachment. "The board owns fifty-one percent of your personal stock options if you default on the family marital covenants. If your wife files a domestic report now, the valuation drops to zero. You lose the penthouse, the hotel chain, and the legacy."
"Then let it burn," Lucas whispered.
