The destruction of Julian Vane’s Swiss infrastructure stabilized the Bennett International stock, but by the third month of the new financial quarter, a new anomaly began to surface in the venture capital markets of Silicon Valley.
Emma sat at her marble desk in Chicago, reviewing a sequence of hostile micro-acquisitions that had occurred over the last fourteen days. A private equity titan based in Palo Alto, named Apex Global Capital, had quietly purchased thirty-four percent of the specialized tech firms that manufactured the physical silicon wafers used in the Bennett server clusters.
"They are trying to choke our supply chain from the West Coast," Marcus Vance said, projecting a complex corporate hierarchy map onto the glass wall of the pavilion. "Apex Global is managed by a man named Gregory Vance—Margaret Bennett’s maternal brother. He has a multi-billion-dollar war chest, and he’s spent twenty years operating in the shadows of the tech sectors."
Emma’s eyes traced the financial lines on the wall. "He’s not trying to appeal his nephew’s case, Marcus. He’s executing a corporate squeeze. If Apex gains control of the wafer manufacturers, they can artificially inflate our hardware production costs by four hundred percent, forcing us to renegotiate our federal logistics contracts."
"We need fifty million dollars in liquid capital within forty-eight hours to outbid them at the manufacturing board meeting in San Francisco," Marcus warned, his face tight with tactical concern. "But our current cash reserves are locked in the European server reconstruction project."

"We don't need bank capital, Marcus," Emma said, a cold, calculating smile breaking across her features. "We have the intellectual property that every single semiconductor company in Silicon Valley would destroy their own balance sheets to possess. We’re not going to buy out the manufacturers. We’re going to make their hardware completely obsolete before Gregory Vance even takes his seat at the table."
