The winter storm over Chicago finally broke, leaving the city skyline glittering beneath a brilliant, crystal-clear morning sun.
At 10:00 a.m., the front doors of the Greenwich estate opened smoothly. Samantha walked out onto the stone porch, wearing a beautifully tailored cream knit dress, her face completely radiant with a deep, unyielding sense of freedom.
Beside her walked her father, William Bennett, who looked at his daughter with a quiet, fierce pride.
"The federal court just issued the final recovery decree, Samantha," William said, handing her a leather-bound folder bearing the state seal. "The Callahan group has been entirely dissolved. Their remaining commercial assets have been consolidated into your foundation’s portfolio. The name Callahan is officially legally dead on the market indices."
Down the heated driveway, a construction crew was carefully removing the large, iron gates that Donatella had tried to command weeks earlier, replacing them with a modern, high-security biometric entry system.

"Oliver called from the holding facility again this morning," William continued, taking a slow sip of his coffee. "He’s begging for a confidential mitigation waiver. He says his mother’s health won't survive the federal grand jury sentencing next week."
Samantha looked out at the quiet, manicured lawns where the cold rain had once fallen. "Tell his defense counsel that I don't sign mitigation waivers for people who forge my name, Dad. He wanted to use paper to turn me into nothing. Now the paper will do what my voice never could."
