PART 3: THE FORENSIC UNRAVELING

PART 3: THE FORENSIC UNRAVELING

By 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, the rain had settled into a quiet, grey mist over the city.

Inside the executive boardroom of the Bennett Group’s downtown tower, the floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a sweeping, unyielding view of the Chicago riverfront.

Olivia sat at the head of the mahogany table, now dressed in a clean, sharp cream silk blouse, her dark hair dried and neatly arranged. Her father sat to her right, his hands folded flat over a stack of asset-seizure certificates.

Across the table, Ethan and Diane sat flanked by their frantic family defense lawyers, their faces pale under the bright architectural lighting.

"The pre-nuptial agreement Ethan had you sign specified a full forfeiture of marital assets in the event of documented emotional instability," Arthur Vance announced, sliding a tablet across the table. "However, the smart-home cameras inside the suburban property were registered under a Bennett corporate security trust. We have three years of unedited footage."

The screen flickered to life, displaying a clear video of Diane throwing a dinner plate at Olivia’s feet while Ethan stood by, editing a financial spreadsheet on his laptop without looking up.

"Marital fraud, financial coercion, and domestic endangerment of a pregnant heir," William Bennett said, his voice dropping into a deadly rumble that made the defense attorneys immediately lower their files. "If this goes to a public grand jury, Ethan, your mother’s real estate holdings in Lake Forest will be entirely liquidated to satisfy the civil damages before the criminal trial even begins."

Ethan looked at Olivia, his hands trembling as he reached across the table in a desperate, submissive gesture. "Olivia, please... we can restructure the fund. I did it because of the pressure. Vanessa meant nothing to me. I was trying to secure our daughter's future."

"Our daughter’s future was secured the day she was conceived, Ethan," Olivia said, her micro-expressions completely devoid of anger, carrying only an absolute, chilling finality. "You just wanted an easy wife to lead because your own talent couldn't clear the first hurdle. My father warned me that men like you love what a woman provides, not who she is."

She pulled her mother's vintage diamond ring from her pocket, sliding it onto her finger with slow, deliberate precision.

"And today," she whispered, "the provision stops."
