PART 7: THE FORENSIC DEEP-DIVE

By Wednesday afternoon, the rain had settled into a quiet, grey fog over the financial district.

Inside the private office of Thompson & Associates, the large mahogany table was entirely hidden under stacks of certified financial tracking sheets, routing codes, and bank-vault access history logs. Samantha sat at the center, wearing a sharp cream silk blouse, her features completely focused as she reviewed a series of encrypted ledger transactions.

Attorney Richard Thompson slid a secondary tablet across the table, pointing to a highlighted line item from an offshore bank in Grand Cayman.

"Oliver didn't just route the four million dollars for your mother-in-law's boutique losses, Samantha," Richard said, his expression grim. "He was using your personal social security number to open a secondary credit line to finance a luxury penthouse in Manhattan under a shell company called L.T. Enterprises."

Samantha’s fingers paused on the tablet screen. "L.T. Enterprises? Who is the primary registrant?"

"Lauren Thorne," Richard replied, sliding a photograph across the table. "An interior designer he met in New York during his business trips last fall. He bought the property three weeks before he prepared those 'household papers' for you to sign."

Samantha looked at the image. The woman was posing on a marble balcony overlooking Central Park, wearing a diamond bracelet that matched the exact line item flagged on Samantha's personal American Express statement under "corporate marketing expenses."

A cold, razor-sharp silence filled the room. Samantha didn't blink. She didn't let her breath change its rhythm. The betrayal didn't break her composure; it simply gave her a brand-new variable to eliminate.

"He wanted me to sign the household waivers so he could transfer the master deed of this house to that shell company," Samantha murmured, her voice dropping into a deadly register.

"Yes," Richard nodded. "If you had signed those papers that morning in the kitchen, you would have legally surrendered your claim to this property within forty-eight hours. It was a complete asset-stripping scheme."

"Call the district attorney," Samantha said, her eyes turning into pure stone under the office lights. "Tell him we have the missing link for the federal grand jury indictment. I want the Manhattan property seized by sunrise."
