Chapter 6 - The Fall of Brittany and the Financial Empire

Julian’s defense collapsed in less than ten minutes under the weight of live technical evidence.
The digital cloning drive plugged into his terminal was actively receiving data packets routed from the hardware bug Brittany had carried into my wedding.
Federal technicians seized his hardware, while Agent Vance served an immediate arrest warrant for corporate espionage, grand larceny, and treason-adjacent cyber infrastructure targeting.
As Julian was led away in handcuffs, weeping and blobering excuses about bad investments, I sat down at my terminal and executed a total system lockdown, revoking every compromised key and securing the clearinghouses before a single dollar could be stolen.
By sunrise, the story had broken across national news outlets, but not in the way my family had hoped.
“Major Corporate Espionage Ring Busted at Northstar Financial; Senior Data Architect and Navy SEAL Husband Intercept Federal Cyber Threat at Wedding Reception.”
When David and I returned to our home in Maryland later that afternoon, my parents were waiting on the front porch.
They looked small, tired, and thoroughly defeated.
My father stepped forward, his usual booming voice reduced to a hesitant whisper. "Maddie... the lawyers said Brittany is facing up to fifteen years in federal prison. Jamal has filed for divorce. Please... you have influence with these federal people. Tell them it was a mistake."
I stood on the walkway, holding David's hand, feeling zero obligation to fix the disaster they had created.
"It wasn't a mistake, Dad," I said, my voice calm and firm. "Brittany made a choice to sell me out to criminals. You made a choice to enable her your entire life while treating me like an afterthought."
"Maddie, please!" my mother cried, reaching for my hand. "We're your family!"
"Family doesn't bring a federal crime into my wedding reception, Mother," I said, stepping back out of her reach. "The firm is filing civil suits against Brittany, and NCIS is handling the criminal charges. I will not interfere."
"You're turning your back on your own sister?" Richard shouted, a last desperate flare of his old anger sparking up.
"No," David said, stepping between them once more. "She's choosing her husband and her own life. Now leave our property before I have security remove you."

My parents stared at us for a long moment, realizing that the quiet, obedient daughter who always paid their bills was gone forever.
They turned and walked down the driveway, completely alone.
