Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM CONFRONTATION

The early morning sun of Monday did nothing to warm the frosted glass windows of Vale Meridian’s headquarters in the financial district.

Grant sat in his executive suite, his custom-tailored suit wrinkled, his hand clenching a glass of cold water as his phone buzzed relentlessly with a series of frantic notifications.

His sister, Victoria, burst through the double doors, her designer handbag shaking in her hand, her face a pale mask of absolute, unadulterated panic.

"Grant! The bank just issued an emergency suspension on our primary operating line of credit!" she shrieked, slamming her tablet onto the mahogany desk.

"They are claiming there is an administrative review underway regarding our recent acquisitions in Chicago!"

"They are saying we used fraudulent collateral to secure the construction bonds!"

Grant looked up, his eyes bloodshot, his confidence entirely stripped away as the sound of sirens began to echo through the streets below.

"It’s Claire’s father," he whispered, his voice cracking into a dry, desperate rattle as he stood up from his leather chair.

"She knew, Victoria... she was reading the offshore files while we thought she was sleeping."

"She didn't just block our credit; she has initiated a total, non-negotiable liquidation of our silent investment trust."

Before Victoria could answer, the heavy double doors of the lobby were pushed open, and a team of federal marshals stepped onto the floor.

"Grant Vale, you are under arrest for federal bank fraud, corporate embezzlement, and domestic coercion," the lead officer announced, his voice echoing clearly through the silent office.
