Part 15: The Restructuring

Two weeks after the stroke, Robert Wright was transferred to a private rehabilitation wing overlooking the Willamette River. His speech was slowly returning, though his right side remained partially paralyzed. The formidable chief of surgery was now a patient, dependent on the very medical systems he had spent a lifetime controlling.

But the corporate world does not pause for a medical recovery.

A high-level delegation from the Wright Medical Group board of directors arrived at the rehabilitation center, led by a sharp, ambitious executive named Marcus Vance. They carried a stack of corporate restructuring documents meant to permanently strip Robert of his voting shares and declare him medically incompetent to manage the foundation.

"Dr. Wright," Marcus Vance said, his voice dripping with an insincere, calculated sympathy as he stood over the wheelchair. "The board needs stability. Given your current neurological status, it’s in the best interest of the firm to transition your voting rights to the executive committee."

Robert stared at the documents, his left hand tightening on the armrest of his wheelchair, his slurred speech failing him as his frustration turned his face a bright, angry red.

"He's not signing anything, Mr. Vance," a voice boomed from the doorway.

Logan walked into the room, dressed in a tailored charcoal suit that perfectly mirrored the old, dominant energy of the Wright bloodline. Beside him walked Victor Hayes, the ruthless corporate attorney I had helped him retain through our Apex connections.

Marcus Vance spun around, his eyes narrowing. "This is a private corporate matter, Mr. Miller. You have no standing in this room. You severed your ties with this firm years ago."

"I severed my ties with my father’s abuse, not my family's legacy," Logan said, stepping past the executives until he stood directly beside his father's wheelchair. He laid a thick folder flat on the glass table. "This is a certified durable power of attorney, signed and executed by Dr. Robert Wright before his surgery, designating me as the sole manager of his voting shares in the event of medical incapacitation. I control fifty-one percent of the board now, Marcus."

The executives went completely pale, their files trembling in their hands as Victor Hayes stepped forward, flashing a sharp, lethal smile.

"We have already filed a motion in the state supreme court to launch a full forensic investigation into the Vance subsidiary for corporate espionage and patent fraud," Hayes announced. "By noon tomorrow, the SEC will be auditing your personal trading accounts, Mr. Vance. I suggest you take your documents and leave before the federal marshals arrive to escort you out."

Marcus Vance looked at Logan, recognizing the terrifying combination of his father's brilliant corporate strategy and his own unyielding, independent resilience. Without another word, the board of directors turned and fled the room, their expensive shoes squeaking against the linoleum.
