Part 16: The Transfer of Power

When the door clicked shut behind the board members, the room fell into a profound, peaceful quiet. Robert Wright looked up at his son, his left eye swimming with tears that were no longer born of frustration or pride, but of pure, unadulterated awe.
"You... you saved... the firm," Robert managed to say, his slurred words coming out slowly but clearly.
"I saved our family's work, Dad," Logan said, sitting down in the chair opposite him, loosening his tie. "The Wright Medical Group was built to cure people, not to steal patents from independent mechanics to fund off-shore real estate portfolios. Tomorrow morning, I’m launching a major restructuring plan. We're diverting forty percent of our commercial real estate profits into a new foundation—The Liam Miller Safety and Innovation Fund."
Robert let out a low, emotional sound, a single tear cutting down the paralyzed side of his face. "Liam... my grandson."
"He's outside with Joanna," Logan said softly, a warm smile breaking through his serious expression. "Are you ready to see him?"
Robert nodded slowly, his left hand reaching out, trembling with anticipation.
I pushed the heavy double doors open, carrying nine-month-old Liam in my arms. The baby was alert, his big, dark eyes taking in the unfamiliar medical room without a single sound. I walked over to the wheelchair, kneeling down so Robert could look directly into his grandson's face.

Robert reached out his left hand, his fingers brushing the baby's soft cheek with a tenderness he had never been capable of showing during Logan's childhood. Liam didn't flinch or cry; he simply reached out his tiny hand and wrapped his fingers around his grandfather’s thumb, locking his dark eyes onto the old man’s face.
The reality of his past mistakes finally dissolved entirely in that single, silent connection. The long, heavy silence that had fractured our lives for nearly a year had finally broken—and a completely new, protective chapter had just begun.
