The ballroom fell into a suffocating silence. Arthur’s smile vanished, his face twisting into a mask of pure rage as he realized he had been walked directly into a trap. He turned toward the exit, but the doors swung open, revealing a team of federal marshals led by Marcus Vance.
"Arthur Pendelton," the lead marshal announced, his voice booming over the microphone. "You are under arrest for conspiracy, extortion, and the fraud of a federal death certificate."
As the handcuffs clicked into place, Arthur leaned close to Emily, whispering fiercely, "You think this ends with me? The Carters were just one branch of a much larger tree, Emily. You've cut the limb, but the roots will bury you."
