Emily chose the center’s first annual charity gala to launch her counter-strike. The room was packed with billionaires, federal judges, and high-ranking politicians. Arthur Pendelton walked in late, smiling confidently, believing Emily had succumbed to his blackmail.
As Arthur took a glass of champagne from a passing waiter, the main projector screens in the ballroom suddenly flickered. Instead of the promotional video for the foundation, the recorded audio of Arthur threatening Emily’s father echoed through the state-of-the-art sound system.
