The collapse of the corporate empire was not an event; it was a slow, agonizing erosion.
While Patricia and Melissa sat in holding cells, their entire network began to cannibalize itself.
Sub-contractors who had been stiffed for years started filing massive liens against what remained of their shell companies.

"What happens to the properties?" I asked.
"The bank is liquidating them to repay the creditors," he said.
"And the board of directors?"
"They’ve already issued a formal apology to the public."
"It’s empty, of course."
"But it’s a public admission of their own negligence."
I nodded, satisfied.
We had survived, but the world felt different now.
The clarity of the morning sun felt like a promise.
We weren't just rebuilding; we were starting from a foundation that was finally our own.
