Part 11: Rebuilding the Citadel

Two months after the trial concluded, Kingsley Financial had completely recovered its public standing. The news of our comprehensive internal audit and the removal of the corrupt board members had actually driven our stock prices to a historic high. The public didn't see a fractured household anymore; they saw an untouchable financial dynasty that knew exactly how to execute its enemies.

I walked into the newly renovated executive boardroom on the top floor. The old mahogany table remained, but the walls had been replaced with clean, clear glass that allowed the bright afternoon sun to flood the entire space.

Damian was standing by the windows, looking over the new corporate charter. He turned around when he heard my wheelchair, a warm, genuine smile spreading across his face.

"The new board members have been vetted by our own private security firm, Mother," he said, walking over to help guide my chair to the head of the table. "Every single one of them has a flawless compliance record. No liabilities. No hidden debts."

"Good," I said, looking out over the glittering skyline of the city. "We don't buy loyalty with shares, Damian. We secure it with absolute transparency. They need to know that their positions exist only because we permit it."

"I received a letter from the prison administration this morning," Damian murmured, his voice dropping into a quiet register. "Serena requested a meeting with me to discuss a conditional apology. She wants to see Noah."

"Noah's trust is under my sole discretion, and his mother's name is legally expunged from his birth certificate, Damian," I said, my voice turning remarkably cold. "She chose to trade her family for a cell in Greenwich. She doesn't get to look at my grandson ever again. The door is closed."

Damian nodded slowly, his eyes filled with an intense, proud resolution. "The door is closed."
