Part 8: Purging the Board

With Montgomery’s confession securely in our hands, the remaining eleven board members who had supported the coup were systematically brought into the executive suite one by one. The corporate purge was silent, clinical, and completely devastating.

By 3:00 PM, seven senior vice presidents had signed their immediate, non-negotiable resignation notices, forfeiting their stock options to the Kingsley Family Trust to avoid being named as co-conspirators in the impending federal investigation. The hostile takeover that Serena and Montgomery had spent twelve months orchestrating had completely vaporized within a single business day.

I sat in my office, watching the compliance directors remove the nameplates from the executive doors across the hallway. Damian walked in, holding two cups of fresh porcelain tea—brewed by our own private, trusted chef.

"The internal audit is complete, Mother," he said, setting a cup gently on my desk before sitting in the leather chair opposite me. "We’ve reclaimed forty-two percent of the company’s outstanding voting shares today. The board is completely under our sole control."

"Good," I said, taking a slow, peaceful sip of the tea, savoring the rich, untainted warmth of it. "A company is like a household, Damian. If you let guests believe their opinions matter more than the people who built the walls, they will eventually try to rearrange the furniture to suit their own comfort."

"I let my guard down because I was focused on the deployment," Damian murmured, his eyes reflecting a deep, lingering guilt. "I thought she was taking care of you."

"She was taking care of an obstacle, son," I said softly, reaching across the desk to squeeze his hand. "But they forgot that a mother’s instinct doesn't decline just because her body is weak. The ledger is clear now. Tomorrow, we face the courtroom."
