Part 7: The Final Leverage

The following morning, Harold Montgomery was waiting in the lobby of Kingsley Tower before the trading floor even opened. The confident senior chairman who had tried to force my son out of his own company looked completely hollowed out. His tie was crooked, his expensive suit looked wrinkled, and his hands shook violently as he clutched a black leather briefcase.

The private elevator opened directly into my upper office, where I sat behind a massive glass desk, watching the sunrise over Lake Michigan. Damian stood by the windows, his uniform replaced by a sharp, dark gray corporate suit.

"Mrs. Kingsley, please," Montgomery gasped, practically dropping to his knees as he stepped into the room. "The banks... they’re calling in my secondary mortgages. My firm's credit line was cut off forty-five minutes ago. If those frozen asset orders go public, my entire legacy is gone by the closing bell."

"Your legacy died the moment you decided to collaborate with my daughter-in-law to poison me, Harold," I said, my voice dead and unyielding.

"I didn't know about the poison! I swear to God, I didn't know!" Montgomery cried, his voice echoing loudly against the glass walls. "Serena told me she was just securing an early inheritance to help Julian! She said you were already suffering from natural dementia! I only agreed to facilitate the transfer because my hedge fund was exposed to the volatile European market!"

"You chose to believe a lie because your greed made you weak, Harold," Damian spoke up from the window, his voice carrying the icy authority of a military tribunal. "You sat in that boardroom forty-eight hours ago and called me a liability because my family was the victim of a crime. You wanted me out so there would be no one left to check the internal wire transfers."

I slid a single piece of paper across the desk. It was an unconditional surrender of his entire corporate shareholding in Kingsley Financial, along with a signed confession detailed for the federal prosecutors.

"Sign the document, Harold," I said coldly. "You keep your freedom until the trial concludes, but your name is erased from this building, your seats are forfeited, and your fortune is ours to liquidate. If you hesitate for five seconds, the district attorney will unseal the indictment for your 2012 fraud before the opening bell."

Montgomery looked at the paper, his hands trembling so violently he could barely hold the pen. With a broken, shuddering sob, he signed his name, effectively destroying the empire he had spent forty years building.
